In response to a recent Facebook comment, I wanted to take a moment to explain the Christian belief, my belief, that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. In John 14:6, Jesus boldly declares, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This statement is at the heart of the Christian faith, yet it is often misunderstood or rejected by those who do not understand the Bible. Let me explain what this means.
When Jesus says He is the way, He means that He is the only path to God the Father. In a world filled with many religions and spiritual paths, this is a radical claim. It asserts that Jesus is not just one way among many, but the exclusive way to have a relationship with the one true God.
Jesus is also the truth. In a world where truth is often relative and subjective, Jesus is the objective truth. He is the revelation of God to humanity, showing us what God is like. Through His teachings, life, death, and resurrection, Jesus reveals the truth about God, sin, and salvation.
Finally, Jesus is the life. Through faith in Him, we receive eternal life. This is not just about going to heaven when we die, but about experiencing a transformed life here and now. Jesus came to give us abundant life, filled with purpose, joy, and meaning.
The exclusivity of Jesus’ claim can be offensive to our pluralistic culture. But it is not about arrogance or intolerance. Rather, it is about the depth of God’s love for us. God desires a personal relationship with each of us, and He has provided one way for that to happen – through Jesus.
This is not about earning salvation through good works or religious rituals. It is about receiving the gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus. It is about surrendering our lives to Him and following Him as our Lord and Savior.
To those who do not understand the Bible, I encourage you to explore the life and teachings of Jesus. Read the Gospels and see for yourself who He is and what He teaches. You may be surprised by the depth of His love and wisdom.
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the only way to the Father. Through faith in Him, we can experience forgiveness, transformation, and eternal life. This is the good news of the Gospel, and it is available to all who put their trust in Jesus.
